Common questions
How does sync work?
Sync is off until you turn it on in Settings. On iPhone and iPad it uses your iCloud Drive; on Android it uses a hidden Sownote folder in your Google Drive. Your notes go to your own account, never to us.
Can I sync between an iPhone and an Android phone?
Not directly: iPhones sync through iCloud, Android phones through Google Drive. To move to a phone of the other kind, use Settings → Move to a new phone. It makes a backup file on the old phone that you open on the new one.
How do I back up my notes?
Settings → Backup makes a ZIP file with all your notes, photos, documents, voice memos and sketches. Keep it somewhere safe: backup files aren't encrypted. You can import it back into Sownote at any time.
How do I delete my notes?
- From this device: uninstall Sownote, which removes everything it stored on the device. If sync is on, you can instead turn it off and tick "Also remove my notes from this device".
- From your cloud: when you turn sync off, Sownote asks whether to remove the copy in your iCloud or Google Drive.
- Google access: you can remove Sownote's access at any time at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions.
We hold no copy of your notes, so there's nothing for us to delete.
